On Thursday, May 22, the Scotia-Glenville Board of Education held a special meeting to discuss the next steps following the school budget vote, which did not receive the required 60% supermajority for approval.
At the special meeting the board eliminated two options: they will not present the same proposed budget for revote, nor will they adopt a contingency budget, which would have resulted in a tax levy reduction of $1,699,295 and a corresponding reduction in the spending limit, which would significantly impact programs and services.
Instead, the board is considering two alternative spending plan options, each reflecting a $614,964 reduction in expenses to bring the proposal within the state’s allowable tax levy cap of 3.25%. Both options fall $849 below the cap, though they approach the reductions in different ways. Click this link to view the presentation.
The board will review and discuss these alternatives and make a final decision at its public meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27. The meeting will be open to the public and streamed on the district’s YouTube channel.
Once a revised proposal is adopted, the district will provide our community with all the information needed to make a well-informed decision. A public hearing on the budget is scheduled for Monday, June 9, in advance of the revote on Tuesday, June 17.
The district remains committed to transparency and community engagement throughout this process. Please visit our website for continued updates.
