Unity Week – culture and community building at SGHS

Monday, March 25-Thursday, March 28

Next week at the high school it’s Unity Week with themes and activities geared to lead to a greater sense of solidarity and inclusion. Daily clothing themes to raise awareness, unity door decorating contests, and an assembly with friendly competitions involving students and teachers.

“This was initiated by our Elevated Student Voices (ESV) group in means to bring what they’ve been learning at CapRegBoces workshops to encourage inclusivity. They in turn brought it back to our building and included our Youth Activation Committee (YAC) to develop Unity week,” said Assistant Principal Angela Cerrone.

Mrs. Cerrone led a planning meeting for unity themes with students and faculty. The student representatives then took the themes that were discussed and went out into the student body to get feedback. This is what the students decided for each day of the week.

  • Monday, March 25: #StudentsAgainstBullying – wear orange
  • Tuesday, March 26: #AwarenessForAllCauses – wear tie-dye
  • Wednesday, March 27: #IncludingOthersIsNoSweat – wear sweats or loungewear
  • Thursday, March 28: #TogetherAsOne – wear Tartan gear
