The K-5 Science Fair blasts off on March 5

Celebrating young scientists

It is that time of the year again! Our third annual K-5 Science Fair will take place at the High School on Thursday, Mar. 5. We had nearly 100 students participate last year in what turned out to be a really fun event. We hope to have even more students participate this year!

The purpose of the Science Fair is to encourage students to apply the scientific method to a science topic that interests them, and have fun in the process! Each participant will work through their grade level version of the scientific method, outlined on the attached Science Fair flyer, and present their work on a tri-fold poster. The poster should include the title of the project as well as the name and grade of the student scientist.

Students should be ready to talk about what they learned to a small group of Science Fair Advisors at the fair. Each participant will receive a Science Fair ribbon, compliments of our PTA Council.

Registration

All participants in the Science Fair must complete this brief Registration Google Form.
The deadline to register is Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Awesome opportunity for students to see science in action

During the fair, Dr. Julie Friot, Professor of Biology at HVCC, will run interactive biotech stations for students. Students will be able to spin samples in a centrifuge, mix them up in a vortex, pipette the rainbow, and discover how scientists use gel electrophoresis to see tiny DNA pieces move like magic!
