Kindergarten registration

Welcome families!

As Scotia-Glenville prepares for the future, knowing how many students will enroll over the next few years becomes very important. We encourage district families with children ages newborn to 6 years to provide your contact information to the school that corresponds with your address.

In most cases, the school where your child will enroll in kindergarten is based on where you live. If you are not sure of your elementary school zone, check out this listing that shows all streets in the school district with their corresponding elementary zones.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CONTACT INFORMATION

Email the following information to your elementary zone’s school secretary.

  • Parents/Guardians names
  • Home address
  • Telephone numbers
  • Names and dates of birth for all children under age 6.

*PLEASE NOTE: BY PROVIDING SCHOOLS WITH THE INFORMATION LISTED ABOVE, YOU ARE NOT YET REGISTERING YOUR CHILD. However, your information will be placed in a database at your child’s school and when it’s time to register, parents and guardians will automatically receive registration information in the mail. Kindergarten registration is generally in late January or early February of each school year.

    Enrolling your student

Your child must turn 5-years-old by December 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten the previous September.

This information is required to register:

    • Student’s original birth certificate (from the Dept. of Health and Vital Statistics).
    • TWO forms of proof of residency (see below).
    • IEP (Individualized Education Program), if applicable.
    • Custody papers, if applicable.

Schedule visit to school before the first day

Students generally begin school following Labor Day in September each year. For kindergarten students, they are able to visit their new classrooms in the days before school starts (by appointment). Each school sends a mailing to parents to arrange a schedule for the visits.

Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)

The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is available to help any family who has a child between the ages of 3 and 5 residing within the Scotia-Glenville School District. The CPSE will arrange an assessment of the child and help provide services in the areas of speech, motor or social development.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, you may want to have your child evaluated by the CPSE to determine if he/she may qualify to receive support services. The majority of the services will go directly to your home or day care and are free of charge.

Please feel free to contact Dr. Cynthia Nash at (518) 386-4304/(518) 347-3600 or email at cnash@sgcsd.net if you have any questions.
