Kindergarten registration

Welcome families!

As Scotia-Glenville prepares for the future, knowing how many students will enroll over the next few years becomes very important. The district needs to hear from families with children ages newborn to 6 years.

Kindergarten registration is generally in late January or early February of each school year.
If we have your contact information in our database, pre-kindergarten parents will receive a mailing about registration that includes more information.

Your child must turn 5 by December 1 in order to enroll in kindergarten the previous September.

If your child is entering kindergarten in September – and you have not already contacted us – please email the information below to jlilkendey@sgcsd.net as soon as possible:

  • Parents’ names
  • Home address
  • Telephone numbers
  • Names and dates of birth for all children under age 6.

In most cases, the school where your child will enroll in kindergarten is based on where you live. If you are not sure of your elementary zone, Check out this listing that shows all streets in the school district with their corresponding elementary zones.

PROVIDING THE ABOVE INFORMATION TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS NOT REGISTERING YOUR CHILD. Your information will be placed in a database at your child’s school. You will be mailed registration information.

In order to register a child for kindergarten, this information is required:

  • Student’s original birth certificate (from the Dept. of Health and Vital Statistics).
  • TWO forms of proofs of residency (see below).
  • IEP (Individualized Education Program), if applicable;
  • Custody papers, if applicable.

Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)

The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is available to help any family who has a child between the ages of 3 and 5 residing within the Scotia-Glenville School District. The CPSE will arrange an assessment of the child and help provide services in the areas of speech, motor or social development.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, you may want to have your child evaluated by the CPSE to determine if he/she may qualify to receive support services. The majority of the services will go directly to your home or day care and are free of charge.

Please feel free to contact Dr. Cynthia Nash at (518) 386-4304/(518) 347-3600 or email at cnash@sgcsd.net if you have any questions.

Other information for preschool parents:

A full-day kindergarten program is offered.
Students generally begin school following Labor Day in September each year. For kindergarten students, they are able to visit their new classrooms in the days before school start by appointment. Each school sends a mailing to parents to arrange a schedule for the visits.

Full-day preschool services are coming to Scotia-Glenville!

The Albany-based company, All About Kids (in collaboration with Advanced Therapy), began offering preschool services for children ages 3 and 4 in September 2016. The classroom is located at the Glendaal Elementary School. Read more about the Glendaal program here.
