We are writing to provide the community with an important update regarding the Scotia-Glenville Schools Facebook page. Please read the following information carefully to ensure your digital safety.
What Happened?
At some point, a malicious actor gained administrative control of our district Facebook page. At 9:04 am on March 29, 2026, this individual posted a video that is not only inappropriate but references adult content the district would never condone. Additional posts and responses by this individual posing as Scotia-Glenville Schools have been made.
We want to clarify that the district’s internal servers and data systems have not been compromised. The issue originated from a non-Scotia-Glenville account belonging to our communications specialist, which was used to manage the district’s Facebook page. That non-Scotia-Glenville account was targeted and hacked, unfortunately giving the unauthorized user control over our school’s Facebook presence.
Current Investigation
We are taking this breach very seriously. We are currently working closely with the FBI and the Troop G Cybersecurity Crime units. These agencies are assisting us in investigating the source of the hack and regaining control of the page.
The Recovery Process
While we have reported the incident to Facebook (Meta) multiple times, the recovery process is not immediate. Because the content currently being posted does not fall into specific high-priority categories (such as human trafficking and child pornography), Facebook’s response time is unfortunately slower than we would like. We appreciate your patience as we navigate their security protocols.
