High School Teacher Aide – Special Education Department

The Scotia-Glenville Central School District (SGCSD) has an opening for a Teacher Aide position within the special education department at the high school and Glendaal Elementary School. (7.5 hour day)

Start Date: April 8, 2024
Job Type: Full Time (10-month position)
Salary: $15 hourly wage (per CSEA contract)
Certification/Licensure: None

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

General Job Responsibilities and expectations include the following:

  • The ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff and families.
  • Constantly monitor safety and well-being of students; monitor student attitudes and encourage positive behavior and interactions with peers.
  • Follow all district policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to our school and students.
  • Monitor, supervise and assist students during non-instructional periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. lunch, recess/breaks, bus loading/unloading, playgrounds, classroom, transportation, assemblies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to incorporate information provided by parents, doctors, nurses, therapists and others in order to understand the needs of and provide services for students.
  • Monitor student behavior and help maintain discipline in the classroom; record behavior data as requested; assist with de-escalation techniques with students as needed.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as requested by the teacher and/or principal.
Middle School Social Worker (Part time)

The Scotia-Glenville Central School District (SGCSD) has an immediate 10-month, probationary opening for a School Social Worker. The position is part-time or 3 days per week at Scotia-Glenville Middle School working with both general education and special education students.

Job Type: Part-Time or 3 days per week (10-month, probationary-track position)

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Master’s Degree from an accredited College with Social Work program. New York State Licensed Clinical Social Work Certification is preferred.

General Job Responsibilities and expectations include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide direct counseling services to students utilizing a variety of research-based approaches
  • Develop intervention strategies to improve student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional outcomes
  • Provide crisis intervention to students and educational teams including suicide assessments
  • Conduct counseling evaluations for students being considered for social work services
  • Attend and contribute to various school teams including the Student Support Team (SST), Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Section 504 committee
  • Complete classroom observations, prepare social history reports, complete social-emotional rating scales, and more upon request by the SST, 504 or CSE
  • IEP responsibilities include entering information regarding social development, drafting IEP goals, and progress monitoring IEP goals according to the evaluation schedule
  • When appropriate, conduct home visits to foster a positive relationship between school and home
  • Assist parents in accessing programs and resources relevant to their child’s needs
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, related service providers, parents, and community providers to understand and meet the needs of students
Teacher Assistant – Glen-Worden

The Scotia-Glenville Central School District (SGCSD) has one opening for a Teaching Assistant position at Glen Worden Elementary School working in a 12:1:3 Developmental Skills classroom.

Tentative Start Date: April 8, 2024
Job Type: Full Time (10-month position)
Salary: per contract (starts at $18.43/hr)
Minimum Qualifications: NYS Teaching Assistant Level 1 Certification or higher

      Transportation Dept. Teacher Aide Positions
      (Non-competitive class)

      Teacher Aide positions exist in the Transportation Dept. effective immediately.

      • Hours:
        6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
        2:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
      • Hourly rate: $14.20/hour

      Substitute Bus Drivers and Transportation Aides
      Must be good with children and multitasking as primary responsibility will be to transport children to and from school safely.
      • Hours: hours will vary depending on route assignments
      • Qualifications: Must be 21 years or older, have High School Diploma or equivalent, CDL B with passenger, school bus and Air brake endorsement. (we will train if they don’t currently have these qualifications)
      • Must pass 19A/DOT physical, drug and alcohol testing, fingerprinting.
      • Rate of pay: Based on Local 766 Contract

      High School Teacher Aide
      • 1.0 FTE vacancy, effective immediately. High School Diploma required.
      • The current salary is $14.20/hour and will increase on January 1, 2023 (rate to be determined).

      The duties of a teacher aide include, but are not limited to, the following:

        • Providing the teacher with information about pupils that will assist the teacher in development of appropriate learning experiences

      Scotia-Glenville does not have a human resources department. You must know which department to apply for a position through. Please check below for the proper department in which to submit an application.

      Buildings and grounds

      Custodians, groundworkers and cleaners
      If there is an active opening in the department, you need to pick up an application. Check here to see if there is an opening in the buildings and grounds department.
      Applications can be picked up the Buildings and Grounds office at the District Office, 900 Preddice Parkway (the end of Lark Street) in Scotia. The Buildings and Grounds Department is located near the business office.

      Clerical

      Scotia-Glenville only hires from an active Schenectady County Civil Service Commission list for clerical positions. If there is a position available, and it can not be filled from candidates on the active Civil Service list, then it will be advertised and applications will be available.
