Administrative Policies for Music Performing Groups

Each member of a musical organization in the Scotia-Glenville Central School District has an obligation to attend all performances in which his/her organization participates. To help alleviate any misunderstanding and to avoid conflict, please check the calendar listing for all upcoming concerts and events.

Each student and his/her parent or guardian will sign a form stating that they have checked the dates and agree that if a student is accepted to a particular music organization, he/she will be present at all scheduled performances unless excused. Participation in a regularly scheduled performance is a part of the student’s quarterly grade. Without participation credit, a student’s grade will be dramatically lower than with participation credits, unless the student is excused for one of the following reasons:

  1. If the student is legally absent from school on the day of the performance.
  2. If the student is taken ill between the end of school and the time of performance, he/she can
be excused if the music teacher is notified before the performance.
  3. If the student must be absent because of a special religious observance or for unavoidable reasons, a written request for excuse is to be filed with the Director of Fine Arts. Such request should be made when the student and parents first learn of the conflict and at least two weeks prior to the performance. This request will be reviewed by the Director of Fine Arts and the teacher who conducts the group. If there is a question regarding the student’s request, the parent will be contacted.

All students are expected to attend the entire concert in which they are performing.

Concert dress

Students should come to performances dressed in any combination of black
and white. The following guidelines are suggested:

Boys: Black slacks, white shirt, long tie.

Girls: Black or white dress (or skirt and blouse), length must be appropriate and no bare
midriffs.
