Student placement letters for the incoming Kindergarten Class of 2039 have been officially sent via mail. These letters provide information regarding your child’s assigned elementary school—Glendaal, Lincoln, or Sacandaga—for the 2026-27 school year.
Understanding Your Child’s Placement
Our decisions for the incoming Kindergarten class were driven by the district’s elementary reorganization goals, as detailed in our April 29 Board of Education presentation. To ensure a high-quality learning environment for every student, placement was determined by several key factors:
- Specialized Programming: Placement for students in specialized programming is determined automatically, with assignments made to the specific school equipped to support their needs.
- Sibling Continuity: A primary factor in placement is ensuring that new students are placed in the same school as their currently enrolled elementary-aged siblings.
- Balanced Class Sizes: We have increased our Kindergarten sections from seven to eight in Lincoln and Sacandaga—our most densely populated neighborhoods. This allows us to maintain smaller class sizes across all three elementary buildings, currently ranging between 16 and 20 students, which is below our district guideline of 22.
- Neighborhood and Transportation Efficiency: We prioritized keeping neighborhoods together to the greatest extent possible and optimizing bus routes to ensure efficient transportation for all families.
Balanced Neighborhoods and “Swing Zones”
To achieve the goals of sibling continuity and balanced class sizes, the district utilizes “swing zones.” These are geographic areas where new students may be assigned to one of several nearby elementary schools. These swing zones may resize from year to year and are intended to be flexible to accommodate a “bubble” or a “burst” in grade level enrollment.
While we always strive to keep neighborhoods together, these swing zones allow us to prevent any one school or classroom from becoming over-enrolled. Because we prioritize keeping siblings together and maintaining small class sizes for all, you may notice that a student living in your same neighborhood is assigned to a different school. This ensures that every student—regardless of their building—enters a classroom that is balanced, appropriately staffed, and ready to support their success.

- Submission Window: Transfer requests for incoming Kindergarteners must be submitted between May 4 – May 15.
- Requirements: Parents are responsible for providing transportation, and requests must not impact class size balance.
- How to Apply: Submit a written request via email to or by mail to the District Office. Your request must include the student’s name, grade, assigned school, requested school, and the reason for the request.
