Legacy of promoting health
On May 16, seniors Alice Nichter and Myah Getter organized a Wellness Day for the entire high school. Each student chose two sessions to attend, creating a personalized experience that fostered relaxation and connection. This was the project they chose to embark on for the second semester Civics Capstone class.
Alice and Myah walked around campus watching students enjoy the Wellness Day activities that they planned. Some students were heading to yoga mats, others grabbing paintbrushes or coloring materials for a creative escape. Therapy dogs wagged their tails as students approached them with smiles, and laughter echoed from outside where yard games were underway.
“I think this is exactly what everyone needed. A chance to breathe, to relax, to just… be,” said Alice. Myah agreed and added that they were planning a day like this even before taking the course. Myah explained the inspiration behind the project was the growing need for mental health support among students, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their efforts were met with enthusiasm, and the event left a lasting impression on both students and staff. The day unfolded beautifully, with students finding moments of peace and joy in activities. Alice and Myah understood they had planted a seed of wellness that could grow into something bigger for their school. Enjoy this video of how it all came to fruition!
