Message from the Principal

Dear Scotia-Glenville Middle School Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I am thrilled to partner with you as we guide your child through these dynamic middle school years.

Middle school is a time of incredible growth, increasing independence, and new discovery. A strong partnership between home and school is vital as we support our students in navigating these transitions. Together, we can provide an environment that both challenges and supports them every step of the way.

Mr Cosmer hi fiveHere are a few ways you can support your middle schooler's success this year:

  • Encourage Independent Routines: Help your child set up a dedicated workspace and a consistent daily study routine. Middle school comes with managing multiple classes, so encourage them to check their assignments daily while taking ownership of their time.
  • Support Healthy Screen Habits: Late-night scrolling and gaming are major drivers of middle school fatigue. Consider setting household boundaries around device use, especially charging phones outside the bedroom overnight to protect their sleep.
  • Focus on Growth over Perfection: Celebrate the effort, resilience, and problem-solving your child shows when facing tough assignments, rather than focusing solely on the final grade.
  • Foster Independent Reading: While you might not sit and read aloud together as often, encourage your child to keep reading books, news, or graphic novels that spark their personal interests for 15–20 minutes a day.
  • Stay Connected via ParentSquare: Middle schoolers often tell you "nothing happened today," but you can stay in the loop! Use ParentSquare to communicate with teachers, monitor updates, and track your student's progress.

We are fully committed to creating a safe, engaging, and supportive space for your child to thrive academically and personally. Please never hesitate to reach out to our teachers, counselors, or main office if you need guidance or support.

Warm regards,
Principal Cosmer
