BOE Meeting Recap: Sept. 21, 2026

The Scotia-Glenville Board of Education met to address key personnel transitions, upcoming district policy revisions, and exciting community initiatives.

A special moment at the start of the evening was dedicated to honoring Coach Jim Krogh, as the BOE Tartan Employee of the Month, celebrating his remarkable 29 years of service and dedication to our community and school district

Operational & District Updates

• Transportation Improvements: The district has faced early-year transportation challenges due to driver shortages, with relief on the way:
  • Joseph Russo was to officially start as Transportation Supervisor on October 5th but will start October 1st. 
  • The Board approved a renewal contract bid with Durham School Services to ensure full coverage for field trips, athletic events, and other miscellaneous transportation needs.
• Interim Leadership: William Wales has been appointed as Interim Director of Math and Science. Search for a permanent director will reopen in October.
• NYS Regents Exam Changes: The Board of Regents plans to eliminate five mandatory Regents exams as graduation requirements starting with the Class of 2028. Scotia-Glenville will continue encouraging current high school students to take these exams to strengthen transcripts and gain practice until formal state guidance is issued.

Strategic Goals & Policy Highlights

• Enhanced Communication: The BOE Tartan Report is moving from a quarterly format to a monthly format (the next draft is under review). A new "stakeholder map" is also in development by the Board members to streamline community points of contact.
• Policy Committee Applicants Needed: The Board is actively seeking community members for the Policy Committee. Note: For more information visit the Policy Committee webpage.
• Draft Policies Under Review:
  • Policy 1230 (Public Participation): Exploring adjustments to align initial public comment periods directly with meeting agenda items.
  • Policy 1500 (Building Use): Updating "home rule" language to guarantee local Scotia-Glenville student activities receive priority access to facilities over outside groups.

Facilities & Community News

• Glendaal Outdoor Learning Pavilion: Construction is officially complete! This project was fully funded by Student Council fundraising efforts and generous community donations, as well as the donation of time by our District Architect Company, SEI Design Group.
• Future of the Glen-Worden Building: Discussions continue regarding repurposing the Glen-Worden building—potential uses include a Pre-K or Early Learning Center. 
• Friendship Fest Confirmed: Save the date for June 10th at 6:00 PM at the Sacandaga playground!
