Growing Enjoyment in Athletic Leadership Summit

What a game-changing day at this year’s Athletic Leadership Summit at Fulton Montgomery College. “We were fired up with insights from our keynote speaker, Dr. Kirbi Kidd from Premier Sport Psychology in Minneapolis, who really hit home with student-athletes on how to balance leadership and the pure joy of sports,” said Athletic Director Jamian Rockhill.

Dr. Kidd tackled the tough things that captains face, shining a light on how we often forget to arm these young leaders with the right tools for success. The crowd was buzzing as attendees learned valuable lessons on bouncing back from setbacks and embracing those unexpected moments that make sports so thrilling. One student-athlete shared how she had been caught up in the competition, pushing herself to the limit without truly enjoying the game. But after Dr. Kidd’s talk, she said she felt a fiery spark reigniting her love for her sport!

There also were varsity coaches and officials in the mix, giving them a chance to see things from the student-athletes’ perspective. It was a collaborative atmosphere, fostering connection and understanding.

“We’re committed to keeping this momentum going and ensuring that enjoyment is at the heart of athletic leadership as we charge forward,” said Rockhill. “Let’s keep building leaders who play hard and love the game!”
