August 17, 2026 Board of Education Meeting at a Glance

The August 17, 2026 Board of Education meeting began with a presentation from Girl Scout Troop 2244 introducing a food waste composting pilot for consideration.

School Business Manager Giaquinto joined the meeting briefly to review the final fiscal projection for the 2025–2026 school year and answer questions from the Board.

During the regular agenda, Superintendent Swartz provided several district updates, including progress on the Glendaal fence installation, the status of lighted street signs leading to Glendaal, student orientations at all three elementary schools, and upcoming events leading into the start of the school year. Superintendent Swartz also provided updates regarding current staffing changes.

The Board approved several tax and budget adjustments, as well as a gift and donation supporting the Glendaal Outdoor Learning Pavilion. The Board also approved an updated district policy and a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy.

Three Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) with the SGTA were approved. The Board also discussed the authorization of impartial hearing officers, and Superintendent Swartz provided a thorough explanation of the reasoning and process behind the authorization.

All staffing items presented on the agenda were approved. The Board also approved the remaining 2025–2026 Board meeting minutes, along with the minutes from the most recent regular meeting and Special Meeting.

Other Business

During the closing portion of the meeting, Board members raised several additional topics:

  • Buildings & Grounds Team: The Board discussed recognizing and celebrating the Buildings & Grounds team for the outstanding work they are doing while managing numerous projects and responsibilities at the same time.
  • Transportation: Board members expressed disappointment regarding the Transportation Department’s announcement that bus schedules would not be available by the previously communicated August 15 deadline.
  • BOE Tartan Employee of the Month: An update was provided regarding the BOE Tartan Employee of the Month recognition.
  • Communication and Feedback: The Board discussed communication and feedback received from staff and families regarding the current transition and the start of the new school year.
