Food, Family, Friends, and Fantastic Memories!

If you dropped by the High School Life Skills End-of-Summer Party, you were instantly greeted by the best sounds in the world: warm laughter, vibrant conversation, and the joyous buzz of a community celebrating together. The party was an informal, high-energy victory lap—a chance to honor incredible student achievements, relive favorite moments, and bring family, friends, and neighbors together.

Around the tables, the real magic happened as students reflected on their favorite summer adventures. Between practicing essential, hands-on skills—like mastering the art of counting money, and spending time with friends—everyone seemed to have one big thing on their minds: baking! Delicious treats were a hot topic, but when it came to ultimate comfort food, Evan knew his pick right away: classic peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches.

And speaking of Evan, his favorite part of the summer program is the daily bus ride to and from school! That daily journey is extra special because of a heart-melting connection: Evan’s mom shared that Nicole, his amazing bus driver, has been driving him to and from school since kindergarten! Seeing that kind of long-term care and community in action really brought home the deep, lasting bonds that make this group feel less like a school program and more like a family.

No matter who you talked to, one message was crystal clear: this summer was packed to the brim with fun, real-world enrichment, and unforgettable field trips to Indian Meadows, Empire State AeroSciences Museum, a bowling outing with students from Niskayuna and BHBL and of course a trip to Price Chopper to buy all the ingredients. While the students still have their official final celebration coming up, this special gathering was all about opening up their circle to the people who love them most.

Here’s to the incredible Life Skills crew—for all the progress made, the delicious treats baked, and the amazing memories still to come!
