Congratulations to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) competitors, wrestler Haley Proulx and swimmer Spencer Gilbert, for being selected as the top-performing high school Tartan athletes for the month of February.
Haley Proulx
Sophomore Haley Proulx had an outstanding wrestling season. She concluded with an impressive overall record of 35-8.
After triumphing in the sectional qualifying match, Haley earned the number two seed for the sectionals tournament, where she exceeded expectations by winning the Section 2 tournament.
Haley then advanced to the NYSPHSAA wrestling tournament at the MVP Arena in Albany, securing an impressive 5th place finish.
Spencer Gilbert
Senior Spencer Gilbert successfully qualified for the NYSPHSAA Boys Swimming & Diving State Championships for the third year in a row.
This time, Spencer set two new school records in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. At the Ithaca meet, he achieved 12th place in the breaststroke with a time of 58.24 seconds and secured 17th place in the 200 IM, finishing with a time of 1:59.98 seconds.
Looking ahead, Spencer intends to pursue his swimming career at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall.
