In this photo, Erin Ferraro’s first graders at Glen-Worden are so excited with their hand-made mittens from Claire McDermott, a retired Glen-Worden kindergarten teacher. She made mittens for both Julia Pyzik’s kindergarten class and the first grade classes of Ferraro and Tracy Ehlinger. The other kindergarten class of Stacy Bisanz also gets mittens but they are knitted by her Mom. It is a wonderful tradition here at Glen-Worden.

The children listen to a read aloud of The Mitten Tree, by Candace Christiansen and get to pick a pair of hand knit mittens. McDermott has been doing this for a number of years for Pyzik’s kindergarten class, but with COVID-19 last year, it did not happen. So, this year she made mittens for all first grade and kindergarten classes. The children were so excited and very thankful for the gift.
