About Glendaal

Glendaal Elementary School is located on Sacandaga Road at the intersection with Bolt Road about four miles north of the village of Scotia, New York.

The school is set in a country setting on a large campus, complete with a creative playground and sprawling fields for all types of games at recess times.

Glendaal was built in 1953 and reached its 50th birthday in 2003. Since the original construction, Glendaal had four classrooms added in the 1960s.

The recent district building program included the addition of four classrooms and a new library/media center. Renovations were done to the nurse’s and administrative offices as well as to spaces for other support programs.

Glendaal is home to close to 300 students in grades K to 5. We have a talented and dedicated staff of 54 teachers and non-instructional staff members who provide quality programming and services for our students and families. We work as a team to meet the needs of all of our children and to establish a rich and nurturing environment in which everyone is encouraged to learn and grow.

Academic excellence is stressed at our school along with an emphasis on character development. We look at the whole child and try to help each one develop socially, emotionally, physically and academically. Glendaal students are treated with respect and encouragement. In turn, they learn to do the same with others.

Over the years Glendaal has earned many honors. In the 1999-2000 school year, our 4th grade students scored exceptionally well on the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) assessment. In fact, we ranked fifth out of all of the elementary schools in the entire Capital District area. Our teachers and support staff work very hard to help our students to acquire the skills needed to be highly successful learners.

Our school colors are red and white and our mascot is a red cardinal. We have a supportive and active PTA that annually sells tee shirts, sweat shirts and other items that carry our school logo. Students and staff members wear them with pride. Our PTA does many things to support our school. Parents are an integral part of our program and we welcome their volunteerism and enthusiasm.

Glendaal is a great school with a wonderful group of students, parents and staff members. We enjoy a scenic location in a setting that adds to the positive experiences of the children. We believe in active involvement and sponsor many activities for the students. It is a great place for children.
