Academic School Year: 2026-27

WELCOME BACK TO SCOTIA-GLENVILLE! 🇺🇸

🏆 EXCELLENCE THROUGH PERSEVERANCE. UNITED BY PURPOSE.

As we begin a new school year, the Scotia-Glenville Physical Education Department stands together with a shared vision and a commitment to helping every student reach their full potential.

Our department is embracing the mindset of  excellence through perseverance - challenging ourselves and our students to grow, overcome obstacles, and strive to be their best.

Our objective is to cultivate excellence in an environment centered on:

💪 Fitness - developing lifelong healthy habits
🧠 Mental Wellness - building resilience, confidence, and well-being
🤝 Citizenship - teaching respect, teamwork, integrity, and leadership

Through active student engagement, instructional leadership, and the NYS Learning Standards, we will focus on growth across the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains.

This year we will work together to provide resources and solutions through physical education.

🏆 EXCELLENCE THROUGH PERSEVERANCE. UNITED BY PURPOSE.

SGCSD Physical Education teachers prepare for the new school year through team-building activities focused on collaboration, communication, and student success.

🌟 PE TEAM BUILDING for STUDENT SUCCESS!

Our Physical Education staff kicked off the new school year by putting our own teamwork into action!

During our staff meeting, teachers participated in team-building activities and Project Adventure experiences designed to strengthen collaboration, communication, trust, problem-solving, and leadership.

Just as we challenge our students to persevere, support one another, and grow through new experiences, we believe in doing the same as educators.

These experiences provided an opportunity for our teachers to learn by doing - experiencing the same types of challenges, reflection, communication, and teamwork that we want to foster in our students. By working together and exploring new instructional strategies, our staff can bring these experiences back to the gymnasiums, fields, and classrooms to create more engaging, purposeful, and inclusive learning opportunities for every student.

By investing in our team, we are better prepared to create engaging, meaningful, and inclusive experiences that help every student succeed!

Excellence through perseverance starts with us: One team. One vision. Student success.

🧗 PROJECT ADVENTURE IS BACK!

Due to popular demand and its educational value, Project Adventure is returning this year!

Through carefully designed challenges and activities, students will have opportunities to develop skills that extend well beyond Physical Education, including:

🤝 Communication & cooperation
💡 Problem-solving & decision-making
🧠 Resilience & perseverance
⭐ Leadership & confidence
💬 Trust & teamwork

Students will learn by doing, reflect on their experiences, communicate with one another, and work together to overcome challenges. These are lifelong skills that can help students succeed in the classroom, on the playing field, and in their communities. When we invest in our teachers, we strengthen our teaching. When we strengthen our teaching, we create greater opportunities for every student to succeed.

INTRAMURAL PROGRAMS 😀

Our intramural programs provide students with additional opportunities to be active, build relationships, develop skills, and experience the enjoyment of physical activity in a supportive environment.

Intramural programs encourage students to:

✅ Try new activities and sports
✅ Build teamwork and leadership skills
✅ Develop confidence and resilience
✅ Connect with classmates
✅ Participate simply for the joy of being active

🤝 UNIFIED PE & UNIFIED SPORTS

A Tradition of Inclusion, Belonging & Leadership

More than a decade ago, our department partnered with Special Olympics and the NYSPHSAA to bring Unified programs to Scotia-Glenville, helping establish a culture where students of all abilities could participate, connect, compete, and learn together. “It was Todd Nelson, assistant executive director of the NYSPHSAA that first talked to me about starting a Unified Program here in Scotia-Glenville in August of 2016”, states Jamian Rockhill, the department director. What began as an initiative to expand inclusive opportunities has continued to grow because of the support from our teachers, administrators, and greater Scotia-Glenville community. Today, Scotia-Glenville Central School District offers Unified PE classes and Unified Sports opportunities throughout the school year, creating year-round opportunities for students with and without disabilities to participate side-by-side.

Unified programming provides students with opportunities to develop: acceptance • empathy • communication • teamwork • leadership • confidence • sportsmanship • belonging

These experiences demonstrate that Physical Education is about more than physical activity. It is about creating a community where every student has a place, a voice, and something valuable to contribute.

Inclusion isn’t an event. It’s a culture.

We are proud of the growth of our Unified programs and the students, staff, families, and community members who continue to make these opportunities possible.

💫 THANK YOU TO OUR PE TEAM

SGCSD PE staff welcomes student and families to the new school year!
As we begin this school year, we want to recognize and thank our Physical Education teachers for the tremendous work they do before students ever step into the gymnasium, field, or classroom.

To all of our teachers: THANK YOU for your dedication, professionalism, expertise, and passion. The countless hours you have spent preparing lessons and experiences that help our students be successful is greatly appreciated! 💫

EXCELLENCE THROUGH PERSEVERANCE.

Together, we will continue to create Physical Education experiences that help our students move, learn, grow, lead, include, and succeed in their journey to become contributing members of our community.

Physical Education plays an important role in developing the whole student. There is a place for every student in our PE community.

Here’s to an outstanding 2026–27 school year! 🏃‍♀️🏆💪
