When the varsity girls soccer team held its annual pie and bread fundraiser this year, the team players probably figured it would be another successful fundraiser to bring in some cash for their extra costs, like to book extra field time before sectionals.

They never dreamed that they’d be feeding hundreds of needy mouths at the Schenectady City Mission.

The Vien family, which owns Cooperative Hearing LLC, knows several of the players, said coach Lise Williams. They donated $500 that they specifically asked go to the City Mission. The team ordered an extra 33 pies and delivered them to the GIVE service learning program, whose students often work at City Mission meals.

Bruce Kohout, the director of GIVE, said his students last night cut and served the pies for dessert to the adults and children during the GIVE Mission Meals program.
