SG girls from Glen-Worden, Lincoln, Sacandaga and the Middle School participate in the 5K Girls on the Run race

Girls on the Run logoDozens of girls from Scotia-Glenville participated in the 5K race with the Girls on the Run program at The Crossings of  Colonie on Sunday.

Girls on the Run is a program that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.

Trained coaches lead small teams through curricula that includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness.

The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.

Each SG elementary team had 16 girls and the Middle School team had eight girls as well as buddies, including staff, teachers and other adults they have been working with for the past 10 weeks.

The SG Team Coaches were:

  • SGMS – Emily Taft , Kristy Rosa, Pam Lyle and Jessica Darling
  • Lincoln – Bridget Sand, Elizabeth Fyvie, Reagan Gatta and Anna Morlock
  • Sacandaga – Beau Brown , Laura McLear and Nicole Burhmaster
  • Glen-Worden – Anna Curtis (Union College) Erin Dyer (Union College) Hannah Whitehouse (Union College) and Amanda Reed (parent)
