SchoolMessenger to replace Blackboard Connect this winter

In our ongoing effort to increase high quality, timely communications between home and school, Scotia-Glenville schools is moving to a new notification and alert system, SchoolMessenger. SchoolMessenger will replace our current system, Blackboard Connect, by Winter of 2021.

SchoolMessenger is designed to automatically notify parents by phone, email and/or text message. SchoolMessenger will extend our existing community outreach efforts and emergency preparedness procedures, as well as inform parents of upcoming school events.

SchoolMessenger will not replace our other school to home communication methods. Principals, teachers, nurses and other school staff will still be accessible over the phone or through email. We will also continue to communicate via current methods including PowerSchool Parent Portal, school newsletters and school bulletins in PowerSchool. The District’s implementation of SchoolMessenger is intended to extend its commitment to remain personally connected with parents by offering additional and timely communications.

We will start the transition to SchoolMessenger by making daily attendance calls to the child’s main contact listed in PowerSchool. At the elementary level, the main contact will receive a call at approximately 9:30 on the day(s) when your child is marked absent from homeroom. At the secondary level, the child’s main contact will receive two calls, one at 9:30 and one at 3:30. Calls at the secondary level will detail period by period attendance.

If your child is marked present you will not receive a phone call. We ask for your patience and feedback as we roll out this new communication system.
