Sacandaga reopening on Friday, Nov. 13 for most – but not all – students

Sacandaga Elementary School will reopen for all students on Friday, Nov. 13, except for students and staff who have been contacted by either Principal Tonya Federico or by the Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) as part of its contact tracing program involving an adult who tested positive for COVID over the weekend.

The contact tracing involved six classes of students and staff members. Plans are being made for the affected students to switch to virtual learning

Everyone at the school is following health guidelines by wearing face masks and keeping socially distant, including the individual who tested positive. All staff members and students complete a series of health questions every morning from the Pinpoint Health Screening App before coming to school.

Please note that The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information about individuals suspected of, or having, COVID – 19. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.

Since the start of the school year, the district has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all buildings on campus, in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
