Sacandaga Elementary School will reopen on Monday, November 9, for all students EXCEPT students in a classroom who may have been exposed to COVID-19. Those students’ parents, who have already been contacted by Principal Tonya Federico, either have been or will be contacted by the Schenectady County Public Health Services (SCPHS) about their next steps.
The school was closed on Friday because several staff members, who may have also been exposed, were excluded from work while SCPHS continued their contact tracing and investigation. There was not sufficient staff to operate the school as normal.
Everyone at the school is following health guidelines by wearing face masks and keeping socially distant, including the individual who tested positive. All staff members and students complete a series of health questions every morning from the Pinpoint Health Screening App before coming to school.
Please note that The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information about individuals suspected of, or having, COVID – 19. We cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.
Since the start of the school year, the district has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all buildings on campus, in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
