More than 40 grade 5 students and their parents served breakfasts to dozens of community members and residents – men, women and children – at the City Mission of Schenectady on Saturday.
The students, joined by their parents, their teachers Rachel Delgado and Christine DeCarlo and Principal Nick Criscone, began showing up at 6 a.m. to start work on making pancakes, sausage and fruit cups, pour orange juice, put out muffins and set the tables.
The meal was served beginning at 8 a.m. At the end of the event, students sang several songs with the residents.
This service-learning program began in 2001.
