Congratulations to Cameron Breslin, an incoming freshman at the high school. He just returned from the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland with his band, Capital District Youth Pipe Band (formerly the Scotia-Glenville Pipe Band).
They won the World Champion title in their grade level against 20 other bands! Cameron is currently the only SG student in the band.
The band won the 2019 World Pipe Band Championship and Best Drum Corps titles in Grade Novice B held on August 17, 2019, at Glasgow Green in Scotland.
The Capital District Youth Pipe Band had bagpipers and drummers from all over the eastern United States as part of their World-championship band. Talented youth from New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida all combined their talents into a seamless ensemble.
In addition, while in Scotland, the Capital District Youth Pipe Band competed on Aug. 10 in North Berwick at the International Highland Games, taking 2nd Place.
The band is led by Director Maureen Connor. CDYPB is a not-for-profit organization that provides professional instruction on bagpipes and Scottish drumming for children ages 8 to 18. The band performs in numerous concerts, parades, and competitions, and has won prizes in the Eastern United States, Canada, and in Scotland, where they also won the World Pipe Band Championships in 2012.
