Both Middle School teams place in regional Science Bowl

MARCH 6, 2017

The two middle school teams competing at the Capital District Science Bowl which took place at GE Global Research Center on Saturday did very well.

Team 1 came in 3rd place in the car race competition (earning individual medals and a trophy!) and Team 2 came in 5th place out of 11 teams.

Both teams also did well in the academic quiz portion of competition – Team 1 made it to the quarterfinals of the academic round.

The students on the team were:

Team 1: Rebecca Carpenter, Lia DiCarlo, Lucas Dempsey, Ayden Keith, and Garrett VanNorden

Team 2: Sean Fluman, Reena Lubowski, Nathan Estes, Hannah Piraino, and Alexa Lotano

Coaches were Neal Cummings and Emily Taft.

The National Science Bowl® is an annual event sponsored by the Department of Energy. Regional competitions are held throughout the country with a national event held in spring. There are events at the High School and Middle School level.

In the NYS Capital Region, volunteers from GE and Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation, as well as the GE Volunteers and KAPL Nova Society, conduct the regional competition.
