And the winners are…

The judging was done today – a difficult process to say the very least! They are Tyler Bareth in kindergarten for Wild Thing and Joceline Soto of fifth grade for Edward Tulane. Among staff, there was a tie between Tacky the Penguin (Sue Zeglen and Debbie LaFleche) and The Lorax (Elizabeth O’Neill).

Some of them wore glasses and a fireman’s hat.

Some had spikes sticking out of them.

Others looked like a fish, a dog, a spooky cat or a rabbit.

One had a North Pole toy factory on top.

Grade 5 student posting with a pumpkin entryThey come in every color imaginable – black, green, blue, yellow and the standard – orange.

These were just a few of the more than 50 entries in the Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest – in which students and staff let their imaginations run wild with the fruit of the season, pumpkins.

“Student excitement is high and I am anticipating even more entries” than last year’s initial contest, said Library Media Specialist Lauren Capuano as the contest began in earnest last week. The entries are lined up on top of bookshelves in the library, separated by grade level.

The pumpkins will be judged and winners announced in the K-2, 3-5 and faculty categories on Thursday.
