Dear Parents/Guardians:
I am writing this letter to inform you of an incident that we had at the middle school today that resulted in a level 1 school lockdown. A student told a teacher about a threatening remark. The Town of Glenville Police were called. The custodians and other staff members immediately began a search of the building to make sure that an evacuation pathway was safe and available, in the event we would need to use it. After initial investigation, it was discovered that a threatening remark was written on the wall of a boysÕ bathroom located on the second floor. Further investigation ensued. Nothing was found to indicate the threat was real or that we were in imminent danger.
This is the second incident of this nature in less than a week. We will be conducting a thorough investigation to determine who is writing these threatening messages. We intend to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. We have encouraged students to come forward if they know who may have written either of these messages.
Our schedule was modified today as a result of the level 1 alert, which lasted for approximately 50 minutes. We followed a 2-hour delay schedule once the level 1 alert was cleared, resulting in shorter periods for the remainder of the day.
In addition, for the remainder of today, we locked some of our bathrooms so we could better monitor them. If we continue to have problems with threatening messages in the bathrooms, we may have to reduce the number available for use during the day.
If you have any information to share about either of these incidents, please feel free to call the middle school.
Sincerely,
Shari Keller
Principal
