Special Meeting Minutes
A Special Meeting of the Board of Education of the Scotia-Glenville Central School District was held in the Cafeteria of the Middle School, in said district on March 4, 2010.
President Carbone called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.
Present: Carbone, Benedetto, Conlon, Normington, Smith, Yagielski, Superintendent Swartz, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Long, Business Manager Giaquinto, and District Clerk DeLong
Absent: none
HEARING/PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR
The following people spoke to the Board regarding the proposed budget cuts:
Christine Darkangelo-Wood, 605 Riverside Ave.
Cliff Hall, 18 Robinson Rd.
Claire Houlihan, 213 Alexander Ave.
Sue McCann, 38 Baldwin Rd.
Eric DeCarlo, President SGTA, spoke to the Board regarding the opportunity to speak at the next Board meeting.
BUDGET WORK SESSION:
Andrew Giaquinto, School Business Manager, explained information received from the Town of Glenville regarding assessment values and their impact on the budget process. Superintendent Swartz then presented adjustments to her proposed budget, which included further cuts in several areas. The Board also discussed the upcoming community forums and the process by which the Board will conduct these forums. President Carbone polled the Board regarding the information provided in regard to assessment values and the Board was in agreement that for budget purposes, they were comfortable using 33% of the assessment values to offset budget increases.
Superintendent Swartz also asked the Board for feedback regarding any items that she had targeted for reductions or elimination that they felt they could not support. The Board provided her with some feedback and will continue to discuss these items at the next meeting.
