Special Meeting Minutes
March 31, 2008

 

A Special Meeting of the Board of Education of the Scotia-Glenville Central School District was held in the Library Media Center of the Middle School, in said district on March 31, 2008.

 

President of the Board of Education Margaret Smith called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

 

Present:      Ahnert, Benedetto, Carbone, Conlon, Normington, Smith, Yagielski, Superintendent Swartz, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kavanaugh, School Business Manager Giaquinto and District Clerk DeLong

 

Absent: none

 

 

Pledge of Allegiance

 

Hearing/Privilege of the Floor

 

Maureen Liggett, 792 W. Glenville Rd., spoke to the Board regarding the Votec program.

 

Elizabeth Currie, 1007 Cherokee Rd., spoke to the Board regarding OPAL.

 

Jerry Moore, 122 Jay St., spoke to the Board regarding this yearÕs budget.

 

BUDGET WORK SESSION: REVIEW REVISED BUDGET INFORMATION

 

Superintendent Swartz started the work session by asking the Board if they had any questions

regarding the handouts theyÕd been given on the OPAL program and also on the Autism Program.

The Board asked several questions and will continue to discuss these items during the budget

discussion. Business Manager Giaquinto then briefly explained details regarding the fund balance.

Superintendent Swartz then presented three scenarios to the Board for possible budget proposals.

The Board discussed several issues regarding these scenarios and reached a consensus on which

proposal they could support. Superintendent Swartz will finalize this proposal and present a final

budget for adoption at the next meeting.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

The Board briefly discussed the following:

 

á      Kindergarten class size for Lincoln school for 2008-2009

á      Family and Consumer Science classes at the High School

á      An opportunity for several 6th and 7th graders to attend a program at RPI

á      The annual BOCES meeting

á      AIS during the summer months for kindergarteners

á      Community involvement in the building project process

á      The possibility of a speaker presenting information to the Board regarding solar panels

á      Heating issues at the District Office

 

 

 

 

MOVED by Carbone that the meeting be adjourned.
