Special Meeting Minutes

 

A Special Meeting of the Board of Education of the Scotia-Glenville Central School District was held in the Auditorium of the Middle School in said district on June 21, 2004.

 

President of the Board of Education Kurt Ahnert called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.

 

Present:      Ahnert, Bradley, Carbone,  Conlon, Smith, Superintendent Marcelle, Business Administrator Nolie, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kavanaugh, District Clerk Galivan

 

Excused:     Magruder, Carpenter

 

PUBLIC HEARING Ð CODE OF CONDUCT COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS

 

Superintendent Marcelle welcomed everyone in attendance.   He explained that the Code of Conduct Committee has reviewed K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 conduct codes and made some minor revisions.  Superintendent Marcelle outlined the revisions and took questions and comments from the Board.

 

The Hearing adjourned at 6:42 p.m.

Curriculum Report:  Promotion/Retention Committee Ð Ann Comley and Shari Keller

 

Superintendent Marcelle introduced Ann Comley and Shari Keller, who presented the Board with a Curriculum Report outlining the DistrictÕs Promotion/Retention CommitteeÕs findings and recommendations regarding the risks and benefits of social promotion and retention.  Members of the Committee gave a brief background, program description, and program recommendations.  Committee Members reviewed retention practices for the elementary schools as well as the Middle School and the Senior High School.  Summer Instruction was also discussed.  The Board discussed the importance of addressing a studentÕs inability to be successful beginning at the elementary level as well as early intervention at the Middle School level.  Superintendent Marcelle thanked the Committee for their hard work.

 

Revised Glendaal Memorial Scholarship

 

MOVED by Smith that the Board of Education approve the revised Glendaal Memorial Scholarship, dated June 2004, as submitted.  (The revised scholarship is contained as Appendix A to these minutes.)

   3)   A stipend in the amount of $4,440 for Richard Wiesen (Media Services, Senior High School) for SASI/Census computer support for the 2004-2005 school year.

                    

              4)   The contract, as submitted, with Cindy Taylor as School Nurse (50% basis, Schenectady Christian School), effective September 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005, with 2004-2005 salary at the annual rate of $9,050.

 

              5)   The appointment of Melinda Zarnoch as Licensed Practical Nurse (Senior High), effective September 1, 2004 through June 30, 2005, with 2004-2005 salary to be at the hourly rate of $10.77.

 

             6)    The appointment of Robert Beedleson as District Printer, effective July 1, 2004, at the hourly rate of $13.46.

 

             7)    The appointment of Timothy Pink as district Printer, effective July 1, 2004, at the hourly rate of $11.88.

 

             8)    The substitute rate for 2004-2005 as follows:

Mrs. Keith has permanent certification.  This appointment is conditioned on the school districtÕs receipt of clearance for the employee from the State Education Department following a criminal history records check in accordance with the provision of

Education Law ¤3035.

 

16) The probationary appointment of Cheryl Urban-Wessinger as Remedial Speech Teacher (Senior High School/Middle School), effective September 1, 2004 through August 31, 2007, with 2004-2005 salary to be at $46,639 (Step 11 +M +4).  Ms. Urban-Wessinger has permanent certification.  This appointment is conditioned on the school districtÕs receipt of clearance for the employee from the State Education Department following a criminal history records check in accordance with the provision of Education Law ¤3035.
