2002-2003 School Report Card Presentation

Joseph Kavanaugh, Director of Curriculum, presented the Board with a summary of the 2002-2003 School Report Card.  He reported that all the schools in the district are in Ògood standingÓ in every area for which the State measures and highlighted the positive aspects of the report.  He then spoke about concerns and long-term possibilities to help raise test scores.

2004-2005 Community Budget Forum/Preliminary Budget

President Kurt Ahnert presented an overview of the 2004-3005 Preliminary Budget.  Mr. Ahnert outlined the budget process and explained that the Board had cut $649,460 from the preliminary budget to arrive at a tax increase estimated to be just over 6%.

Superintendent Marcelle then outlined the budget reductions that have been approved and explained that with 6.04% estimated tax increase, the additional tax on a $100,000 home would be $158 before STAR deductions.

President Ahnert invited comments from the community members, students and faculty.  Several members of the community and staff made comments regarding the budget and the effect the tax increase and program cuts would have on them.

President Ahnert then began the budget discussion and the Board Members discussed the items under consideration.  The Board reached consensus on items that they would not consider cutting from the preliminary budget:

á      Academic Head of English

á      1 hour/day monitor

á      Elementary Summer School

á      Young Scholars Program

á      GED Ð 1.0 FTE

á      Fitness Center Supervisor

á      Off-Campus Sports

á      2.0 FTE GOAL Program

President Ahnert wrapped up the discussion, noting that at the next meeting, the Board will discuss the items still under consideration and vote on adopting the Budget.
