Dear Scotia-Glenville Staff Member:

We are pleased to inform you that the Board of Education has selected Mrs. Susan Swartz to become the next Superintendent of Schools for the Scotia-Glenville School District.  The appointment is scheduled to be made at the July 11, 2005 Board of Education meeting.  Mrs. Swartz is scheduled to begin her role as Superintendent on August 15, 2005.

Susan Swartz is presently the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Shenendehowa Central School District where she has been responsible for the entire K-12 instructional program for the district's 9600 students.  Previous to this role, she was Shenendehowa's Director of Student Services that included all programs for students with disabilities, academic intervention needs and programs for enrichment or acceleration.  For sixteen years, she taught special education students in Saranac Central School District, the Sullivan Diagnostic Treatment Center (Liberty, NY), the Langan School (Albany, NY), and in Shenendehowa.  Her B.S. in Education is from SUNY Plattsburgh and her M.S. in Education is from Russell Sage.

In selecting our new Superintendent, we have seriously considered the input from our School/Community Interview Teams, our own interviews with candidates, and extensive reference checks we have made.  Our search consultants, Barbara Nagler and Kathryn Gerbino of Capital Region BOCES, have interviewed an extensive list of candidates and made reference checks as well.  Throughout this process, Susan Swartz has received strong support and her previous educational leadership and personal qualities are described as exemplary.  The Team and Board interviews found her to be a collaborative decision-maker, experienced in leading district-wide initiatives, a true learner, and passionate about teaching and serving children.  We see her as an excellent fit for our school district and look forward to the welcome and support all our staff can provide Susan in her role as Superintendent.

We want to thank all our staff, students, parents and community members for the important role they played in this selection process.  In addition to best wishes for a pleasant summer, we look forward to greeting you all when our school year begins in September.

                                                                                                Sincerely yours,

Margaret Smith
