Carly Yezzo, who graduated form Scotia-Glenville and the Career and Technical School (CTE) program at BOCES last year, is heading to a national culinary competition with the SUNY Delhi Hot Food Team.
She will compete in the American Culinary Federation (ACF) National Championship July 9-13 at Disney World in Florida. Carly and her teammates will take on the winners of the three other ACF regional competitions.
The SUNY Delhi team last week won the (ACF) 2017 Northeast Region Student Team Championship, defeating other top-ranked culinary programs from across the region.
"This was a tremendous victory, and validates the hundreds of hours of preparation the students and their coaches have invested in reaching this milestone," said Dr. David Brower, SUNY Delhi Dean of Business and Hospitality Management said in a prepared statement. "This is our most diverse hot food team. Age, gender, race, cultural background-none of these things are stumbling blocks when they are in the kitchen. They understand the value of working as one."
Yezzo said last year that she is planning a future as a chef and a restaurant owner.
Of her time at CTE, Yezzo said that "competing in the local, regional and state level SkillsUSA competitions was definitely a highlight."
