á Cathy Conroy made a motion to accept the minutes as posted. Mike King seconded the motion. The minutes were accepted.
á Dan
submitted the charter renewal to be approved and signed by the President.
á He
explained that the scouts carry their own insurance and that they use the
cafeteria area for their meetings.
á Dan
explained that the scouts have a two-tier leadership program so that the scouts
are always with at least one adult.
á Every
adult that works with the scout program must pass a background check and go
through a leadership training program, which also includes safety training.
Keith Wheeler-Eagle Scout Project Update
á Keith has completed his Eagle Scout Project, which involved making a 4-square court and updating the basketball courts on the school playground.
á He passed around before and after pictures for all in attendance to view.
á Joanne asked Keith what he had learned from this project and Keith said that he found it difficult to get others to contribute and to coordinate busy schedules.
á Copies of the Treasurer's report and the PTA budget were passed out for all in attendance to review.
á Paula said that there is one more check from the school pictures that needs to be deposited.
á The available amount in the PTA account is $18,000.
á The Holiday Bazaar made $1771, which was great.
á The Sacandaga Holiday Dinner brought in $136.
á Mr. Tobiassen said that SDM is trying to bring more programs to the school. There is a bullying program that we can do in conjunction with Lincoln and it would cost each school $300. The program is for all ages K-5 and includes a variety of activities. Mr. Tobiassen made a request to the PTA for the funds for this program. Melissa Peterson made the first motion to provide the $300 for the program and Cathy Conroy made the second motion.
á The 1000 book club kicks off on the 28th at 7pm in the cafeteria.
á The PTA council will meet in the school library on January 28th.
á ELA's start the first week of February.
á Winter Concerts: K-2 January 27 and 3-5 February 10th.
á Banking (Anne Cardany) No report.
á Homeroom Parents (Cathie Sweeney) Cathie will coordinate with Lynn Cullen to have one Homeroom parent from each class help her with the soup labels.
á Programs (Linda Plemenik) The Circus will have a patriotic theme this year. The PTA will provide t-shirts for the 5th graders. The program will be March 1-5 and the show will be on March 5th. There will be a midway again this year with more stations. Linda will try to get the boy and girl scouts to help with set up and clean up. Linda will check the calendar with Mr. Tobiassen to see if there is time in the spring for any other programs. Beth made a motion to give Linda a $300 cash advance to purchase t-shirts and other supplies for the circus. Melissa Peterson seconded the motion. It was agreed that Linda could request more money when she needs it.
á Membership (Cathy Conroy) Five new membership applications were received at the Sacandaga Holiday Dinner. That brings the total member total to 152. Cathy suggested that information about PTA position openings go out shortly after the February break. Each position opening will also include a job description.
á Ways and Means (Karen Normington) The spring fundraiser will be with C&H and will consist of flags, chocolates and other spring items. Karen mentioned that they will coordinate pick up times and dates so that they isn't any confusion like there was in the fall. Melissa Peterson mentioned that we should check on the fall fundraiser for next year because it may have interfered the 5th grade fundraiser this year since they were selling the same items at about the same time.
á Box Tops (Suzanne Tonsberg) The next submission is due March 31st and it will be for over $ 350. $260 was received from the last submission. The school is planning on purchasing either a large screen TV or a VHS/DVD player with the money from this program. Melissa Peterson mentioned that Mrs. Liggett keeps track of the requests for equipment that come in.
á Soup Labels (Lynn Cullen) Lynn requested help from Homeroom parents for sorting and bundling the labels. Mike King suggested that next year soup label sorting is included in Homeroom parents job description.
á Cub Scouts (Mike King) The scout charter renewal was submitted to be reviewed and signed by the President. Mike also informed us that he is working on getting donated asthma equipment into the Scotia-Glenville school system. This would enable students with asthma to remain in school and be treated by the school nurse for an attack.
Special Committee Reports
á Michelle
and Joanne are working on the 5th grade luncheon. A survey will be going out to all the 5th
grade students so that they will have a voice in the planning of the
event. Each teacher will appoint
one boy and one girl from each class to serve on the luncheon committee.
á Joanne mentioned that the PTA usually provides school clothing to the teachers and aides. It should probably be done again since it hasn't been done recently. Linda will check on prices when she checks on the circus shirts.
Respectfully submitted,
Beth Fritzeen
PTA Secretary
