Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the November 15, 2005 meeting were accepted
as posted.
PresidentÕs Report Ð Cathie Sweeney and MaryPat Burke
- A
committee has been formed for the 5th Grade Luncheon.
- A
reminder that the FounderÕs Day Dinner is February 7th. Tickets are $23.
- There
is a need for clarifying safety issues for school events. Each event needs a chairperson
with access to an emergency call list. If there is an emergency, call 911 from a building
phone rather than a cell phone if possible, to avoid the extra routing
that cell phone calls must make.
PrincipalÕs Report
- The
Spelling Bee competition has begun in grade 4 and 5 classrooms.
- Kindergarten
Registration is earlier this year Ð January 23rd Ð January 27th.
- State
testing is going on now in grades 3 Ð 5.
- Scores
for Grade 5 Social Studies tests came in last week Ð 75% of Sac students
scored at Level 4, and all our students scored at Level 3 or 4.
- Transitional
Kindergarten began after New YearÕs.
- Grade
4 has their dance performance with Sinopoli Dance Studio on January 25th. The dance residency program is
later this Spring.
TreasurerÕs Report Ð Christine Polsinelli
- There
is currently a balance of $10, 415.86 in the General Fund.
- There
was income of $18.52 from interest in the savings account.
- Payment
of $5605.02 was made on the merchandise from the C&H Fall Fundraiser.
- The
Holiday Bazaar had sales of $1,690.45, leaving a profit of $572.15.
TeacherÕs Report Ð Kim Lavery
- The
Ellison machine is broken Ð they are not sure what is wrong with it, but
Ellison is taking it back and repairing or replacing it.
- There
is a balance of $477 in the Box Tops fund left over from the purchase of
the machine Ð they are putting in an order for more die cuts.
- Ticket
Town has not been discussed yet at a faculty meeting but she thinks the
teachers will be interested.
- There
is a need for someone to do the slide show for the 5th grade luncheon.
Standing Committee Reports
- A
presentation was made during the meeting by Kristine Gregory regarding the
new Scotia-Glenville Family Room at Lincoln School. She is a former Kindergarten and 3rd
grade teacher at Burnt Hills School District, and has started this program
on a grant from Cornell Cooperative Extension. It is designed to be a drop in program for caregivers
and children, with structured playtime, parenting classes, and nutritional
workshops, but most importantly, just for networking between parents. Ms. Gregory provided all at the
meeting a flyer about the program and a calendar for January 2006 (this
flyer was also sent home with students).
- Dinner
With Santa (MaryPat Burke) The
program went well, especially considering the change of date due to the
snow day. The kids did 2
crafts, Sacandaga merchandise was sold along with Krispy Kreme donuts (not
as many as last year Ð many donations to local fire and police stations)
and sign ups were held for upcoming Fabulous Fridays. She recommends a snow date being
built into the district calendar next year. Another change for next year would involve student
volunteers Ð there will not be supervision between the end of school and
set-up at 4pm. Volunteers
should go home and return at set-up time.
- PTA
Council (Cathie Sweeney for Maureen Ciotoli) PTA Council will be
held here at Sac on 1/25 and we will need to provide refreshments. Also, see Maureen about Founders
Day questions or nominations.
- Ways
and Means (Karen Normington) The
Niagara Chocolate fundraiser is all set to begin on Friday, January 27th.
The sale will run until February 17th, with delivery time 3/29. There was some discussion as to
whether or not another fundraiser should be done. Tammy Zwicklbauer pointed out that if we hold a
Spring Picture date, the yearbooks will be $2 cheaper per student, even if
families do not actually order any photos. Linda Plemenik made a motion to hold a spring picture
date. The motion was seconded
by Cathy Conroy, and all members present voted in favor of this.
- Yearbook
(Tammy Zwicklbauer) She is in need of
lots of candid photos for the yearbook. The first photo deadline to Lifetouch is 2/13, and the
final one is in April. Photos
can be uploaded to Tammy at tatdragonfly@aol.com
or burned to a cd and left in the PTA mailbox. Print photos can be used as well. Please label/caption all photos
with the event and grade or teacher if possible. There was some discussion about dealing with all the
photos for 5th graders, between the yearbook and 5th
grade luncheon. 5th
grade luncheon photos will be submitted to Cathie Sweeney and shared with
the yearbook committee. It
was reiterated that someone needs to take over the slide show project for
Kim. The yearbook committee is also in need of people to help design the
yearbook pages. Contact
Tammy.
- Membership
(Melissa Peterson) 16 new members joined, giving a total of
200. She is sending in the
form this February as there is a special award for having at least 15 new
members join in February. Sac
is also eligible for some other awards Ð one for 100% of faculty as
members, one for having 10 members who are not affiliated with the school,
and one for ¼ of our membership being male.
- Box
Tops (Clara Bisaillon) There are currently 19,212 points
in the account. There was
some discussion about getting some games for the classrooms to be used
during indoor recess. It was
mentioned that we could do a budget of $25 per classroom for 20
classrooms, and that this could be the class gift from PTA this year. Clara Bisaillon made a motion to
do this, which was seconded by Beth Fritzeen. A vote was held, and passed. Beth and Clara will do a wishlist flyer for the
classrooms and the shop for the games.
- Programs
(Cathy Conroy) The Zucchini Brothers are booked
for after the dinner in March, and also booked for a snow date. There was some discussion as to
whether or not to book a speaker recommended by Barb Wurz, who will be in
town from California for an Elementary Physical Education leadership award
dinner. We could share a
program with the other schools in the district Ð it would be like the
circus but much smaller. It
was decided that this would not be feasible due to conflicts with the
speakerÕs available dates.
- Fabulous
Fridays (Linda Plemenik) 120 kids are signed up for this
program. Some classes had to
be cancelled because only a couple of students signed up for them. All the information is on the
computer, and she will be making a list for all classroom teachers so that
they know what classrooms their students will be going to.
New Business Ð Open Floor
It was suggested that the Ticket Town drawings get done
during the April 28th Family Fun night. After some discussion, it was decided that this program
would be cancelled, and the drawings would be done during an assembly.
MaryPat Burke suggested that, instead of a dinner before the
March 10th Zucchini Brothers program, (snow date March 24th)
we use the ice cream left over from Back to School BBQ (there are 9 unopened
gallons left). It was also noted
that this will not be a drop off program.
There was a reminder that Linda Liggett needs to approve any
flyers going out to the classes.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Michele Calderon
PTA Secretary
