á      Founders Day will be on February 2, 2010. A nomination committee will need to be created.  Mr. Waters is making a new plaque holder since the current one is full.

á      Picture day is on 10/7/09. Lifetouch will be here all day. Volunteers are needed.

á      The Scotia middle school PTA is requesting that the Sacandaga PTA contribute $175 to help them pay for the evening anti-bullying program on October 30, 2009. The evening program will be open to all Scotia-Glenville parents.  Karen Normington motioned that $175 be given to the middle school PTA to help pay for the Dr. M. Pritchard anti-bullying program. Clara Bisaillon seconded the motion. The money will be taken from the Miscellaneous Programs.

á      The PTA convention is November 15th to the 17th. If anyone on the PTA board is interested in attending one of the workshops please let Karen Normington, Michele Calderon or Carolyn Scott know. There is money in the budget to cover the cost.

á      This yearŐs Reflections theme is beauty. Applications are due by October 23, 2009.

 PrincipalŐs Report:  John Tobiassen

á      The book fair will run from October 15th to the 23rd. Open house will be on October 20, 2009. Profits from the book fair will be used to purchase new materials for the school library.

á      The ice cream social came in under budget. Four hundred dollars worth of school t-shirts and sweatshirts were sold at the event.

á      Carolyn Scott has paid out one check so far for the K. Sturdy Scholarship. One check is still outstanding.

á      There is still some membership money coming in.

á      Carolyn Scott will be leaving the Sacandaga PTA at the end of the school year. A person is needed to take over as treasurer next year. A person who is available during the day is preferable.

Programs:  Janine Phillips, Dawn McCarthy, Clara Bisaillon, Anne Cardany

á      Janine Phillips thanked Anne Cardany for organizing the ice cream social which was a big success.

á      The next program is the free Radio Disney program which is scheduled for October 22, 2009. Janine Phillips is having trouble getting written confirmation from Radio Disney.

á      Bob Oats is scheduled to be here for Healthy Heart Day in November, but he isnŐt returning phone calls made be Janine Phillips. If we are unable to reach him he may need to be replaced. Karen Normington will follow-up with Bob Oats. The rest of the dayŐs events are all set.

á      There was a discussion regarding when to start sending out flyers regarding Fabulous Fridays. The first flyer will be sent out shortly. Janine Phillips will be sending an electronic copy to John Tobiassen so it can be put up on Edline, too.

á      Due to medical issues the person who comes as Santa to the Dinner with Santa program will need to be replaced. If anyone knows of someone who would be interested in doing it please let Clara Bisaillon know ASAP. We may need to rent or borrow a Santa suit for the night.

á      Clara Bisaillon emailed PTA board members regarding the dilemma over the Holiday Bazaar.  Insurance doesnŐt cover lost or stolen items, so the PTA would be responsible for paying for any items that were stolen or lost. After emails and discussions Clara recommended raising the cost of the items being sold at the bazaar by about 25 cents to cover the risk. Items being sold will be locked up nightly. Michele Calderon motioned to increase the cost of the items by approximately 25 cents to go ahead with the event. Anne Cardany seconded the motion. Clara Bisaillon submitted the emails that were sent regarding this issue to Pam Petralia, PTA Secretary.

Membership and School Banking:  Anne Cardany, Meg Bisaillon, Danielle Roylance

á      No banking report

á      Currently we have 114 members this year which is a decrease from last school year. To encourage people to join we will have a table at the open house on 10/20/09. A reminder will also be added to the morning message.

PTA Council Rep: Lisa Basil

á      Colleen Benedetto reported on the last PTA council meeting.

á      The council is looking for feedback on the Reflections program since participation has declined. The council will be discussing if the district should continue with the program.

á      Founders Day dinner will be on 2/2/10.

Yearbook Coordinator:

á      No one has been found to coordinate the yearbook yet.

Homeroom Parent Representatives:  Anne Cardany & Clara Bisaillon

á      Clara Bisaillon will be putting together a letter reviewing activities and homeroom parent responsibilities for the year.

á      Clara Bisaillon is looking for people (preferably people who donŐt work during school hours) to help make calls when the emergency call list is needed.

Box Top Coordinator:  Lori Temple & Jane Smith

á      No report

Campbell Soup Labels:  Colleen Carnevale

á      No report

 Open Floor / New Business:

á      Jason Marra questioned how the PTA usually communicates- through emails or discussions at the PTA meetings. Karen Normington addressed the question stating that the PTA board usually communicates through meetings. If something comes up between meetings emails are sent out between PTA board members. Karen Normington gave Jason Marra a list of email addresses for the PTA board members.

á      Susan Meeker is now in charge of Odyssey of the Mind.

á      Clara Bisaillon shared that there is a shortage of child-sized t-shirts and sweatshirts. We need to consider purchasing new shirts/sweatshirts and decide if we want to change the logo. Clara Bisaillon will look into costs and possible companies for new shirts/sweatshirts. The information will be reviewed at the November meeting.

Adjournment

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 8:10 p.m. by Michele Calderon.  Clara Bisaillon seconded the motion.

Respectfully Submitted By

Karen Normington & Pam Petralia
