Meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm
- Copies of this yearÕs PTA plan were handed out.
- PTA needs a lot of volunteers to plan and carry out events.
- Cathie Sweeny will chair the Back to School BBQ on September 28th 4:30-7.
Information sheets need to be turned in because there is limited food.
- There will be a sign up booth on Meet the Teacher night to recruit PTA members
- All PTA flyers that are sent home need to get approval first. They need to be approved by the Co-Presidents, then Mr. Tobiassen and Mrs. Liggett. They should include contact name, phone number, and a tear off sheet at the bottom needs to state what event it is for.
- Recruiting for sign changers has begun. Clara Bisaillon volunteered to be the person to do this. Karen Normington volunteered to show her where the letters are.
- Copies of last yearÕs budget audit sheet were passed out and gone over. An error was discovered involving the Kay Sturdy Fund. The error was explained as having come out as $500 instead of 2 at $500 totaling $1000.
- Vote was made to continue the Kay Sturdy Fund for next year
- Christine stressed the importance of clearly documenting changes made to the budget
- The expense voucher reimbursement form, in the past, has not been being filled out correctly. This year the form is clearer and easier. Please see Chris or Carolyn with questions.
- There was a vote for a locked cash box in the office to collect PTA money. It was seconded and approved by the PTA.
- It was noted that there needs to be a minimum balance kept in the checking account and maximize the amount in savings to make more money in interest.
- The audit was approved.
- This years programming budget was handed out and gone over.
- This years budget was approved under the condition that it could be changed at a later date.
- This year has gotten off to a good start.
- State Math results are in for last year. Very good results and the district looks very good.
- Grade 5 Science grades are in from last year, also very excellent scores.
- Frost Valley trip is coming up for the 5th grade.
- Third grade Terra Nova testing is September 25, 26, and 27. These are cognitive tests for placement.
- Meet the teacher night is Sept 20 for K-2 and anyone in Mrs. LessardÕs 3rd grade class. It is on Sept 25th for grades3-5.
- Parent conferences are earlier this year, in October rather than late October-early November.
- There is a new district Wellness Policy that was gone over. A lot of little changes will be coming when the state mandate comes down, but for now the district is taking a pro-active approach so the change wonÕt be so great when the regulations come out. The bottom line is that there will be no food-centered activities, and the children will not be rewarded with food. These are Ņcommon senseÓ ideas like more PE for 4th and 5th grade, possibly K-3 also.
- The school has gotten a lot of positive PR for their initiative of the new Wellness policy, like being on Channel 9.
- Part of the success of the program depends on good dialogue between parents, teachers, and students.
- Citizenship theme this year, involving community service, environmental themes and being aware of the world around us.
- Recycling bins are being delivered soon for the 5th grade, who will be collecting newspaper, paper, and magazines. It is not for profit and there will be a pick up every other Tuesday.
- The faculty will be guest scoopers at the Back to School BBQ on Friday the 28th.
There was an explanation of why the Holiday Bazaar is not going to work for this year, and how we could improve the handling of it in the future, should the PTA try it again.
Programs (Linda Plemenik for Patty Paone)
- The Catskill Puppet Theatre is coming to perform Hiawatha Oct 12th and a High Energy Juggling Show on Nov 6th.
Ways and Means (Cathie Sweeney)
- School pictures are October 5th.
- Parent volunteers are needed to help out.
- This year we are selling cookie dough and GrandmaÕs pies. Fundraiser will start Oct 1 and money needs to be in Oct 16th.
-Nothing at this time.
-Homeroom parents were on track at their meeting
-Snacks are not to be brought in for birthdays this year because of the new policy on wellness. There will be very specific guidelines to use if food comes in from the outside.
-There has been no legislation stating if ice cream parties and pizza parties will be allowed, so we are waiting to hear.
Box Tops for Education no report
- We have 23,170 points and need to go through the catalogue to see what we want.
- We need volunteers, date TBA.
There was a motion made to elect a Co-President for the PTA this year. Karen Normington was nominated. It was seconded, and there was a vote. Karen was elected Co-President for the PTA for the 2007-2008 school year.
Colleen Benedetto suggested that to go along with our new Wellness Policy, the kids could be donating Halloween candy they collect, to go to the Ronald McDonald house charity.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:43pm.
Respectfully Submitted
