Call To Order

Meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm

 

Meeting Minutes Approved from November Meeting

 

Presidents Report Ð Michele Calderon and  Karen Normington

 

-       FounderÕs Day committee will meet Friday for nominations

-       Kay SturdyÕs sister passed away and we have received over $400 in donations toward the scholarship fund

-       Sacandaga PTA is in charge of the table arrangements for the FounderÕs Day dinner.  Tables will need arrangements on them.  About 20 arrangements in vases will be needed.   Vases will be provided.  Clara is checking on flower prices from Price Chopper.  The dinner is Feb 5th at the Glen Sanders Mansion

-       The PTA bulletin board in the hallway needs a purpose, and it was suggested by Cathie Sweeney that we do a Wall of Fame or something to showcase the students and faculty at our school

 

-       PTA Council meeting will be on January 30th, here at Sacandaga at 7PM.  This is a  change in date from the 1/17th.

 

TreasurerÕs Report- Christine McKenna

 

-       We currently have $7,616.97 in the checking account

-       Programs in December were more costly than expected because there was a miscalculation in the amount that we would be reimbursement

-       Our income from the fall fund raiser exceeded expectations by $2,500and we need to decide how to spend that money

-       We received a check from Boxtops for $737

-       Yearbook invoice estimated at $3851Ñcost to the PTA approx $17/each

-       There was an amendment approved to remove the Holiday Bazaar from the budget entirely for this year.

 

PrincipleÕs Report- John Tobiassen

 

-       Respect is the theme this month

-       Alplaus Animal shelter supply drive is wrapping up

-       School wide Spelling Bee is the 24th, for the 4th and 5th graders.  Regional is at ProctorÕs on Feb 5th

-       PTA council sponsoring a night with the Department of Criminal JusticeÑthe program is Internet Safety for parents, location to be announced.

-       Mrs. Rosenberry is News channel 13Õs Educator of the Week in March, and we will have information about when she will be featured as soon as it is available.

 

Teachers Report-   Colleen Carnevale

 

-       Teachers wanted to know how they could help with the expense of the circus, in the event there is not enough money in the budget, but it was discussed that we will hire Larry and his partner as they have been Boces approved on their own.

-       Teachers would be interested in taking some of the excess money and allocating it by gradeÑit was noted that these invoices would need to be paid by June.

-       Teachers need to be made aware the circus will run the week of March 10-14.

 

Standing Committees

 

Ways and Means

 

-       We will be doing the Silver Graphics fundraiser again this year.  The artwork has to be in February or March for an early May delivery.

-       Valley Cats tickets can be used as fund raiser.  The tickets cost $2.50 each and we sell them for $5Ñthere are 10-15 dates available.  Cathie will get more information and we will discuss it again at the next meeting.

 

Programs 

 

-       Fabulous Fridays are confirming all final detailsÑthere is some printing needed and Elise Rosenberry will work with Carolyn Scott to get it done.

 

New Business/Open Floor

 

-       Lounge makeover was approved

-       Suggestion box will be left in teachers lounge to solicit idea from staff about the kinds of changes they would like to see.  Suggestions have to be in by next meeting.

-       Order form for Sacandaga gear is going home.  There is a limited selection of items left and they will be available on a first come first serve basis.  There will not be any additional orders placed.

-       If using the PTA closet, please label your item and put it on a shelf.

-       Clara is starting a committee for next yearÕs Holiday Bazaar in hopes that pre planning and preparation time will help make it a more successful program.

-       A suggestion was made to have a sign up sheet at Meet the Teacher night for events and programs at the school to solicit more help from other parents besides the same parents that hold positions or who attend meetings regularly

-       Mrs. PowerÕs brother passed away and we will be donating a book to the library in his honor that is picked by her.
