More than 100 Middle School students to sharpen basketball skills during Hoops for Hearts on Tuesday, Dec. 4

Scotia-Glenville Middle School students will sweat up a storm and reach for the net for a good cause during the 13th annual Hoops for Heart fundraiser from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the school, Prestige Parkway, Scotia.

All activities will take place in the gymnasiums.

"Our kids get a lot of exercise and benefit a very worthwhile cause," said Carol Atkins, physical education teacher at the middle school. She said that students also learned about heart disease and strokes – the number 1 and 3 killers of Americans – during physical education classes in the past two week.

Last year, more than 100 students raised more than $4,900.

New this year, grade 8 boys and girls will also hold a 2 on 2 basketball tournament after school on Thursday, Dec. 6.

The event, which benefits the American Heart Association, is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD).
