It's that time of year again; Fire Prevention Week- October 9th through the 16th. This was to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. It was decided by the Fire Marshals Association that this day would be observed not with festivities but in a way that would keep the public informed about the importance of fire prevention. Hence for the past 48 years Fire Departments have used this week to hold a Fire Prevention Poster Contest so students all over the country can review fire safety information. This year's theme is "Use Candles With Care". It is open to all first through fifth graders. The Fire Department chooses a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner from each grade amongst Sacandoga, Lincoln and Schenectady Christian School. First place winners receive a $100.00 savings bond, 2nd and 3rd will receive a $50.00 bond. The grand prize winner will also ride to school in a fire truck. How awesome is that! Keep an eye on our web site for some of Lincoln's art work.
