Sacandaga Elementary students enjoy fabulous fridays

February 3, 2012

Hundreds of Sacandaga Elementary students stayed after school today - but not because they had to. They just wanted to learn new things while having fun at the same time.

That's the whole purpose behind the PTA's Fabulous Friday - kids getting to have fun while learning. Fabulous Fridays began on Jan. 27 and ends Feb. 10. Other elementary schools in the district offer similar Friday enrichment programs.

A walk through the hallways revealed plenty of laughter, talking and moving coming from all directions - whether by practicing Messy Science, perfecting your form in Tae Kwon Do, shaking bottles in Make a Tornado, creating on-screen in Computer Lab, testing the roundness of your creation in Make a Hula Hoop, making an afternoon snack in Cupcake Decorating, using toothpicks and multi-colored candies in Gumdrop Molecules or experiencing a Trip to Camp Halfblood.

There were also programs about making snacks for birds, fun with foam, bracelet making, painting Army men, fun with French, puppet conversations, learning to play soccer, doll team party and many other chances for Sacandaga students, with volunteer adults and parents as well as student helpers from the high school, to learn something they probably wouldn't have learned in their classrooms.

Here are a few scenes from today's Fabulous Friday. Click on the image to enlarge it:
