Lincoln students in grades 4 and 5 paint hallway with Iroquois mural

March 10, 2011

All this week, Lincoln students could be seen painting the walls at the school with wild yellows, oranges, reds and greens.

But this is no graffiti.

Mural artist Susan Shanley has been working with grades 4 and 5 students and several parents to paint the hallway with a 100-foot mural of Iroquois artwork.

"The kids are so excited about this," said Carrie Thompson, vice president of arts and education for the Lincoln PTA, which sponsored Shanley and the project. "This gives them an experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives."

This project replaces the annual PTA Circus Project, which was done at Lincoln for the past several years. Thompson said it was time for a program change.

Shanley, who lives in Saratoga Springs, has been working on school mural projects for several years. Here is her website: http://oneworldclassrooms.org/susan4.html.
