Students in grades 2 and 3 this fall were asked by Physical Education teacher Mark Gatta to bring in recipes that used applies as the main ingredient.
"We're trying to encourage kids to think about healthy options for eating," said Gatta, noting that this initiative pairs with the district's Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative (PDF).
The bright yellow bound book will be sent home with each student in grades 2 and 3.
Students in Peggy Gillen's and Lauren Remmer's grade 2 classes and Kathleen Powers's and Anna Morlock's grade 3 classes participated.
Gatta said he is already planning a holiday dessert book that can be created by student recipes.

creation along with Mr. Gatta. On the right is the book.
