There was a lot of writing, reading and artwork spread throughout the cafeteria at Glen-Worden today as the Write Like an Artist Art Show and Author Reading was held by the grade 5 students.
In an example of interdisciplinary learning, each of the 50 students in grade 5, who are in Regan Burns's and Chris DeCarlo's classes, worked with art teacher Beth Collins to create five pieces of artwork based on specific childhood memories. They then wrote essays about their memory and presented their work to other students and to parents during the program today.
"We had the kids use their artwork to inspire and share the creativity of their writing," said DeCarlo. This even culminated a year-long interdisciplinary memoir writing and art project.
