fifth-graders prepare and serve breakfast at city mission

March 18, 2017

For the 16th year, nearly 50 grade 5 students today served breakfasts to dozens of community members and residents - men, women and children - at the City Mission of Schenectady.

The students, joined by their parents, their teachers Rachel Delgado and Christine DeCarlo and Principal Mark McCarthy, began showing up at 6 a.m. to start work on making pancakes, bacon and fruit cups, pour orange juice, put out muffins and set the tables.

The meal was served beginning at 8 a.m.

Students prepared various items to bring to the folks at the City Mission. Toiletries, toothbrushes and toothpaste were collected for the City Mission. This service-learing program began in 2001.
