Three candidates file petitions to run for seats on the Scotia-Glenville Board of Education May 18

Three candidates –– Joseph Crisafulli, Jerry Moore and incumbent Margaret Smith –– are seeking election to the Board of Education in the May 18 election. Each filed the required 76 signatures on petitions by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 19. There are two open seats on the board and each one is for a three-year term. Board members are not paid.
The candidates will meet in a Meet the Candidates' forum sponsored by the PTA Council at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at the Middle School. That forum will follow the public hearing on the 2004-05 budget, set for 7 p.m. that evening. The candidates are:

Joseph P. Crisafulli, of 1006 Arapaho Path
He and his wife, Therese, have three daughters: Eva, a grade 8 student; Mary, a grade 6 student; and Josephine, a grade 2 student at Glen-Worden. He is a program manager for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. He holds a masters in public administration (MBA) from SUNY at Albany and a bachelors of business administration (BBA) from Siena College in Loudonville. He has served as treasurer of the Glen-Worden PTA and is a coach for the Highland Soccer recreational league. He has been a district resident for 17 years.

Jerry Moore, of 122 Jay Street
He and his wife, Ann, have a daughter: Kezia, a grade 12 student.
He is an attorney and has worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney and served in the US Navy as an electronics technician. He is a former Schenectady County human rights commissioner and co-chair of
the county's Jail Oversight Committee. He received a bachelor's degree in economics and a law degree from Ohio State University. He also received a master's degree in criminal justice from the University at Albany, where he taught courses in law, courts, ideology and juvenile justice.
He has been a district resident for 13 years.

Margaret Smith, of 11 Vista Drive, is seeking a third three-year term.
She is currently vice president of the board.
She and her husband, Larry, have two children: Lauren, in grade 5, and Andrew, in grade 2. Both are at Glen-Worden. She is a teacher at A Special Place for Children Nursery School and an itinerant special education teacher for New Meadow, providing services to children in their homes.She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Russell Sage College and a master’s degree in early childhood education from the College of St. Rose. She is currently the corresponding secretary for the Glen-Worden PTA and is a eucharistic minister at St. Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland. She has been a district resident for nine years.
